bullet imagebullet imageHere at Happy Hens Heritage Farm we raise (happy!) heritage breed poultry that would make a lovely addition to any barnyard or backyard flock.  We believe that happy and healthy hens (and roosters!) are the key to happy and healthy (and adorable!) chicks, poults and ducklings.  We provide all of our poultry with high quality, locally sourced and freshly milled organic feed, lots of fresh water, plenty of room to roam and the finest country air.

What are heritage breeds you ask?  They are purebred breeds; breeds that have not been recently crossed.  All breeds are mixes of a handful of others but those mixes took place when the breeds were first created, after that the new breed that was created must breed true, ie. it must produce offspring with identical characteristics as the parents.  Once a "new" breed has bred true consistently generation after generation (a minimum of 6 generations I believe) then it can officially be recognized as a purebred breed.  Many of the heritage breeds that exist today were created in the 19th and 20th century, but some of the original breeds (used to create new breeds) have been around for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
